In early 90’s people used to find services and products for their needs through various physical sources – newspapers, media, people, shops and community gatherings . Television, of course, was a biggie, given the compelling sights and sounds it could generate  for vast audiences. Prior to that, ad campaigns in radio used to be a huge source of information for consumers though the video killed the radio star. Inspite of a variety of sources, peer to peer recommendations usually trumped the rest due to the high reliability factor.

Today, that trend still lives with 78% of people turning to peer recommendation and 14% watching media advertisements. However, the big difference lies in where the people look for information today? Surely it is the Internet and specifically it is Social Media. Today social media is considered to be the #1 center of activity and attention on the internet. People no longer search for product and services as much as they reach out for them through social media. It took 38 years for Radio to reach 50 million market audiences. Television took 13 years. Internet took 4 years. But Facebook took only 2 years to reach 50 million users across the world. Social media is a viral phenomenon where people create, discuss and share their content or ideology in countless numbers. Facebook is one of the largest among the others. They have more than 1.3 billion active users. YouTube takes second place followed by few other popular services.
