Cloud Harmony’s 2014 report on cloud services shows Amazon’s uniquity over other cloud services in providing undisputed services.

Since 2006, many cloud service companies have emerged including Microsoft and Google. They initially had their cloud services held in Amazon’s cloud, but later created their own private clouds knowing the future of cloud technology would help them develop their technologies in cloud platform. Microsoft founded Azure in Feb 2010 while Google Storage and Google Compute Engine were founded in May 2010 and June 2012 simultaneously.

  • Also the availability percentage of EC2 for the year is 99.997% while it is 99.981% for Google compute Engine and 99.984% for Azure object storage.

Azure Object Storage

These numbers not only show the reliability of Amazon’s service but also the importance of a cloud service as part of business continuity plan.

In addition to that, Amazon AWS has already started announcements for AWS 2015:

  • New cross account access in AWS management console
  • Classiclinks for VPC-EC2 communication
  • New encryption options for Amazon RDS

Taking these statistics into consideration, it will be a tough task for Microsoft and Google to beat Amazon’s leading position.
