Symantec one of the leading backup appliance providers, announced the discontinuation of sales of its Backup Exec 3600 product from Jan 5th, 2015 while pledging to honor active maintenance contracts in place for its customers with updates and support till Jan 5,2020. This major development combined with the company’s earlier announcement to exit the Backup Exec cloud business in November 2013 points to challenging times for its Backup Exec line of products.

We believe that “Continuity is at the heart of conservatism”. Though Symantec suggested that they are making this decision to provide a better and enhanced product experience for enterprise customers, the small and medium sized customers who were relying on BE 3600 appliance for their backups are bound to be affected enormously.
