Vembu Technologies
After over a year of work (on top of the existing StoreGrid engine), Vembu Home is finally ready.
We took all the time we needed as we wanted Vembu Home to be unlike anything you’ve seen. And we (obviously) think, it is unlike any backup software you’ve seen- and will see for some time, at least.
The obvious question first. Why is Vembu Home different?
- It’s iPhone inspired user interface is light years ahead of anything else. With its fluidity and intuitiveness, people may actually start enjoying backing up.
- It is the first and only consumer backup solution that supports “free local backup” to disk and optional Amazon Cloud backup
- The software is FREE – yes, FREE as in beer. Vembu Home is a zillion times better than whatever software you’re using to backup to your external hard disks. So if you want to junk that (software) and use some seriously potent stuff, go right ahead.
- Our OPTIONAL online backup service is built on the Amazon Cloud. We’ve been doing this ‘Amazon stuff’ for over a year now. Amazon has been doing this ‘cloud stuff’ for years. In fact, they started it!
- For the technically inclined: Vembu Home is built on Adobe Flex+AIR. It’s the only backup software to leverage this cutting edge platform.
- It is built on proven technology. Vembu’s StoreGrid has been around for over 4 years, runs on over 100,000 computers, and is ‘under the hood’ of 1,500 service providers across the globe.
- More than backup – there’s a drag & drop box, a web archive, online restores, and the ability to share backed up files by email – from a browser. It’s too much of effort to detail everything here. Get your FREE copy, instead.
Vembu Home is currently in Private Beta and we’re limiting users – for now.
You can use the (limited) invitation code: BACKUPS CAN BE FUN!!
Where does Vembu Home fit into our existing product portfolio & market focus? Please come back tomorrow for a ‘revealing’ blog post on this –same bat time, same bat channel.
This is exactly what I’ve been looking for. I needed a robust software that could be used to backup on a schedule to my external hard drives. I’ll give it a try for sure.
Thanks.
Please do.
And do post your feedback.
I have some questions about this new development.
With Vembu Home, are you going into business to compete with us, your Storegrid customers??
Why doesn’t Storegrid 3.0 have the nice Flex interface and options like web restore? These features would help me a great deal.
We’ve talked and you have written about how cheap providers who commoditize the backup industry are not viable and how we can compete with them. So why do you guys want to get into this business?
How does this help current storegrid customers, can we attach vembu home to our own amazon servers and use it like you do?
I’m confused and a bit concerned. It seems like a lot of recent effort has been made to create this product, while I thought your main focus would have been StoreGrid 3.0 for your reseller customers! Thanks for the clarification. I’m sure I just misunderstand the motives here.
I have just installed and used it. It’s great! The dropbox feature is nice. I have needed something like this before when I finished an important document and would have rather just sent it up to the data backup right then as opposed to waiting for the schedule, or manually running the schedule right then. Also web restore is useful ( I Haven’t tested this yet). So the product looks great and I’m a fan of Flex. So great work. I just can’t wait to hear your input on my initial concerns in my first comment. It seems like you are competing with your current StoreGrid customers by offering remote backup directly to home users?
Jason,
Thanks for your comments, and for (in as nice a way as possible :-) ) articulating your concerns.
I’m penning the last 2 paragraphs of a blog post that will hopefully address your questions and assuage your concerns.
I wrapped up the above post saying:
Where does Vembu Home fit into our existing product portfolio & market focus? Please come back tomorrow for a ‘revealing’ blog post on this –same bat time, same bat channel.
As you might have guessed from this, there’s a detailed post coming!
Please bear with us while I get this up. Thereafter, we’ll be happy to address any unanswered questions you have.
