Interop | Javits Center, New York, NY | October 1-5, 2012
Len and I heard from a wide spectrum of participants ranging from the Senior executives at large enterprises (like McGraw Hill, Tata communications, Nippon Life etc) to Data center providers, Large Managed Service providers , Small and Medium IT services providers, regional distributors, small businesses and even self employed individuals as well besides a few existing partners who graciously stopped by to wish us.
Though the attendance, concentration of appropriate audience and booth participation was less than we had expected from this highly touted hub for peer networking among technology professionals, I want to rather focus on the important lessons we gathered from those selective and stimulating moments at the expo where we met with professionals who wanted to make sense of the groundbreaking advances in mobility, cloud computing, data center and virtualization solutions and discussed with us on our offerings that could be of value to them.
I want to share some pointed highlights from this event
(1) A majority of the IT professionals and executives we met showed a lot of interest in SyncBlaze solution as one of the means of adapting to the BYOD policy developments at their respective businesses emerging as a result of the consumerization of IT trend. Given that employees are choosing to use their own mobile and tablet devices for business tasks whether their IT departments support it or not, a BYOD policy based on user’s role and device types enforced by a productivity enhancing business solution like SyncBlaze holds out promise to the IT admins to help control this usage and mitigate security risks without alienating that principle idea whose time has come.
(2) Data center Providers shared that even considering the enormity and complexity of migrating IT functions to the cloud, a favorable disposition existed towards private cloud for small and medium businesses which indicates that smaller firms are willing to consider shipping their infrastructures off-premises and that dedicated hosted environments will see significant adoption. MSPs were quite keen to learn more about how they can offer StoreGrid Cloud as a way to offer cloud-based disaster recovery and online backup services to their customers.
(3) Comparisons galored everytime a conversation steamed up around our services and we were constantly requested for differentiation from services like Dropbox and Egnyte. To quote an example, we even had a Solution provider of video communication for Large enterprises share considerable time chalking out an elaborate set of requirements on paper with us that lined out scaling expectations of his customer segment in terms of Encrypted File container security, Event Auditing, Windows NTFS permission propagation, Cloud File Server as Mapped drive, Remote Data wipe, Bandwidth throttling and DLP.
Though we feel that Interop show was a mixed bag in the end, we do have a few takeaways in terms of what the growing expectations of the market are shaping out to be for the kind of services we offer and also help us in leading towards the direction of bolstering our service offerings suitably for the game changer level in order to tap into the deep and latent potential that it represents for our partners serving their SMB customers.
