Naming Conventions

Backup naming conventions are guidelines for naming backup jobs to ensure easy identification, organization, and retrieval of backup data. The primary goal is to make it easy to identify and manage backups by following a guideline while naming the backup. Choose a naming convention that works best for your specific backup needs, taking into consideration factors such as the type of data being backed up, the frequency of backups, and any organizational or compliance requirements.

Any backup and replication job created in BDRSuite should be named with the below-mentioned rule:

  • Only [a-z][A-Z][0-9][ - _ ] characters are allowed in Backup/Replication Name.

Also, do not use the following reserved names for naming any backup/replication job:

CON, PRN, AUX, NUL, COM1, COM2, COM3, COM4, COM5, COM6, COM7, COM8, COM9, LPT1, LPT2, LPT3, LPT4, LPT5, LPT6, LPT7, LPT8, and LPT9.
