Vembu Rolls out Support for LinuxBMR

Hola!  We are very extremely excited and enthralled about the release of Bare Metal Restore for Linux. As you know already, Bare-metal restore is a methodology in the domain of data recovery, where backed up data is in ready-to-restore form which allows you to restitute a computer system from bare metal. Possibly, this announcement from Vembu could be a seekers’ attention for most of Linux enthusiasts and IT Managers. We, Vembu, believe and understand  the industry needs with respect to time and are quite aware of the eagerness spreading for a sturdy BMR backup software in the MSP market. If you are one among those folks, here is where your Google-ing ends. Also, we  thank our channel partners for holding your horses! So, this is our high time for us to get things done for you. As we are up with the bare metal restore for Linux, you can make your hands dirty by testing with our beta builds. BMR for Linux have been developed to run on latest Red Hat distributions.

How does it work?

To brief about the design, we are backing up your Linux Machine as a File-by-file backup! And for your heck,  just wonder about the space occupied by the data on your StoreGrid server. Yes,  it is designed in a way that, you need not compromise too much of your storage space.  Instead of an image based backup of your machine and filling your storage space with more data, your entire machine is sent to the server just by a file-by-file backup. This design gives a possibility of performing even  a file level restore. Unlike other’s, you have a double advantage of restoring both Bare Metal as well as file or folder level restore.

What else StoreGrid can do?

• To dive deep into it, ostensibly StoreGrid never minds if your hard disk is of Logical Volumes (LVMs) or Physical either. No constraints if your HDDs’ are SATA or IDE or both! You can restore backed up data to target disk regardless of those corners and restrictions. This gives you freedom of restoring an IDE disk backup to SATA or vice-versa.

• Additionally, StoreGrid is the one among very few backup softwares which also backs up the soft links that you created. So you can start working or modifying those link files you created after a restore.
